Maria Pippou

I am a bilingual graduate of English and Spanish Language and Literature offering one-to-one tuition to students of all ages and backgrounds (classes for school and University students, adults and professionals).

I have had long experience in teaching ESOL and Spanish in Greece and the UK. In the years between 2001 and 2013 I worked as an EFL teacher in schools of Modern Languages (frontistiria) as well as a private tutor. I have also worked as a Spanish and Modern Greek interpreter (2013-2015) and a private tutor of English as a Foreign Language, Modern Greek and Spanish (2014-2017) in the West Midlands area, UK.

In the same period I worked as a supply teacher in mainstream as well as special schools in the area. I have also had two months experience in a PRU (Pupil Referral Unit) in the Wolverhampton area (2016). I have attended a variety of ESOL seminars and have had training in Special Learning Difficulties.

For the academic year 2018-2019 I will be attending an Advanced Professional Course on Special Learning Difficulties, based on clinical practice.

As a person I am well-organised, educationally flexible, empathetic, professionally devoted and humorous. Due to the variety of my professional posts and the diversity of my professional responsibilities I was able to witness a wide range of students, with various learning potentials and educational requirements.

Therefore I consider every student as a unique case which I firmly support not only with the ”traditional” use of coursebooks and audiovisual materials but also with my natural sense of humour, combined with interactive resources based on the student’s personal interests.
